Hughes Springs falls to Bulldogs, 62-34

CARTHAGE, Texas— Corrigan-Camden rolled up 456 yards and posted 28 points in the second half, rolling to a 6234 win over Hughes Springs in the Class 2A Division II Region 3 area playoffs.

The Bulldogs had three players turn in 100-plus nights on the ground, paced by 170 from Keegan Mitchell, who finished with a pair of touchdowns.

Hughes Springs' season ended at 10-2.

Malyk Johnson and Carlos Inguanzo combined for six touchdowns and over 300 yards on the ground for the Bulldogs as Corrigan-Camden gained 456 of its 588 total yards after both teams entered the locker room knotted 14-14 at the half.

Michael Martinez led the charge for Hughes Springs, finishing with 140 yards on the ground with a three-yard score and tossing touchdown strikes of 36, 23 and three en route to a 307-yard night the Mustangs. Kane Sampson scored from 33 yards on the ground and hauled in a 36-yard toss from Martinez.

Hughes Springs got on the board first on a 33-yard run from Sampson but he Bulldogs answered quickly with Inguanzo capping a seven-play, 56-yard drive on the following drive.

A quick three-and-out from the Mustangs set up the Bulldogs at the Hughes Springs' 43-yard line and Inguanzo was in the endzone again eight plays later on a one-yard jaunt, set up by a Haden Armstrong 27-yard pass to Mitchell on 4th and 9.

Hughes Springs converted a pair of third downs amidst an eight-play, 52-yard march with Martinez finding Sampson over the middle on a screen and Sampson taking it 36 yards for a 14-14 score at the break.

Johnson capped a near fiveminute march to open the third quarter and Mitchell skirted down the sideline for a 77yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs up 26-14 with 5:37 left in the stanza.

The next six minutes featured three touchdowns and two lost fumbles for the teams combined with Corrigan-Camden emerging at the end of the third with a34-20 lead.

The two teams exchanged scores to open the fourth, combining for four touchdowns in just under three minutes off the game clock. Addison Kirkland rumbled for a 33-yard score to give the Bulldogs a commanding 56-34 lead with 5:06 to play. Johnson added a 73-yard score inside the final minute for the final.
