Leopards JV wins both games at HS tourney

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas— Liberty-Eylau's junior varsity came through with impressive performanc­es in winning both its games Thursday in the Hughes Springs basketball tournament.

The Leopards defeated host Hughes Springs, 75-49, after earlier downing Ore City, 51-42.

Harmony's girls also had two victories, 47-18, over Linden-Kildare, and 43-41, over Pittsburg.

Hughes Springs' girls won both its games, 44-43, over Jefferson, and 43-20 over Ore City.

Paul Pewitt's boys were also a double winner, defeating Harleton, 46-25, and Harmony, 73-45.

In boys' games today, KarnackPau­l Pewitt, and Harmony--

Harleton at 10:30; and Hughes Springs-Ore City and LibertyEyl­au-Beckville at 1:30.

In girls’ games, Hughes Springs-Karnack and Jefferson-Ore City at 9 a.m., and Pittsburg-LindenKild­are and Harmony-Beckville at noon.

Boys L-E (JV) 75, Hughes Springs 49

After Hughes Springs had tied the game, 22-22, early in the second period, the Leopards pulled away to a 37-27 halftime lead, and outscored the Mustangs, 38-22, in the second half.

Deonte Crawford led the Leopards with 13 points, Decorian Meadows had 11, and Malcolm Grant had three 3-point goals for nine points.

Eleven players scored for L-E.

Harmony 55, Karnack 24

The Eagles broke open a fairly close game with a big third quarter in which it outscored Karnack, 23-5.

Austin Spurlock paced the winners with 21 points.

paul pewitt 46, Harleton 25

This game was basically over at halftime when the Brahmas took a 28-4 lead.

Isiah Porter led the Brahmas with 20 points that included four 3-point shots.

Hughes Springs 46, Beckville 37

The Mustangs held a 18-15 lead at halftime, and then took a commanding lead, 37-28, after outscoring Beckville, 19-13, in the third period.

Hayden Smith led the Mustangs with 15 points and Michael Harris had 12.

Girls Hughes Springs 44, Jefferson 43

The Lady Mustangs held a 2219 halftime lead and hung on for the victory.

Dashe Hatten paced Hughes Springs with 12 points, and Alexis Jones led Jefferson with 17.

Harmony 47, Linden-Kildare 18

The Lady Eagles jumped on top early, outscoring L-K, 16-2, in the opening period.

McKinna Seahorn and Jacy Lloyd combined for 32 of Harmony’s points. Seahorn had 17 and Lloyd 15.

Shardai Love led L-K with 11 points.

L-K 34, Beckville 30

Beckville carried a 25-21 lead into the final period before L-K outscored Beckville, 13-5, in the final eight minutes.

Haylee Smoak was “smokin” hot in the fourth quarter, connecting on three 3-point shots to pull out the comeback victory.

Smoak had 13 points and Summer Davis led Beckville with 9.

Harmony 43, pittsburg 41

After trailing by four, Pittsburg tied the game, 41-41, with one minute left.

Harmony’s Seahorn missed two free throws with :08 left, but Lloyd came up with a steal and passed to Seahorn for the winning layup.

Seahorn led the Eagles with 23 points and Lloyd had 16.

Denasia Watson led Pittsburg with 15.

Hughes Springs 43, ore City 20

The Lady Mustangs shut out Ore City, 16-0, in the first quarter, and continued to pull away.

Rebecca Crossland paced Hughes Springs with 19 points.
