AHS student to hang art in Regional Arts Center

-

Twelve works of art by Arkansas students, including one artist from Arkansas High School in Texarkana, are currently on exhibit at the Texarkana Regional Arts & Humanities Council Regional Arts Center.

The Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition, which includes artworks created in charcoal, pencil, watercolor, acrylics and more, is located in the Dowd Room on the third floor of the Regional Arts Center located at 321 W. Fourth St. in Texarkana, Texas.

AHS junior Will Gloster’s color pencil drawing, “Grammy Lulu,” is among the works of art in this year’s exhibit, said Amy Donohoe, TRAHC director of Visual Arts and Community Programs.

The traveling exhibit, which is free, will be in town through Dec. 28.

The Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition began in 1961 when the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock hosted the first statewide competition to encourage young Arkansans’ creative expression.

Each year the children’s art exhibit showcases works by students in kindergarten through 12th grade from across the state. The children’s artworks are juried by The Arkansas Art Educators and a juror selects a Best of Class and two Honorable Mentions for each grade.

Donohoe said the exhibition has grown to be an Arkansas tradition and a TRAHC tradition.

“I am thrilled our area Arkansas schools participate in this really awesome annual event, and I hope they continue to do so in the future,” Donohoe said.

The Regional Arts Center is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, except on Christmas Day.
