MILLWOOD LAKE

Surface temperature ranges 55 to 62 degrees. Clarity improved in most areas on the main lake to 10-14 inches of visibility. Topwater action for bass has tapered off over the past two weeks. Spin Traps, Little Cleos, Little Georges, Rooster Tails, and Rocket Shads are still catching all species of bass.-Traps continue to be the number one bait for bass on points near stumps and any remaining live vegetation. A lot of the lily pad stands are beginning to die back with the cooler nights. Slow rolling War Eagle Spinnerbaits in Firetiger or white in stained or muddy water is working well. Bomber and XCalibur crankbaits in Foxy Phantom, Citruese, or Firetiger continue working on the schools of largemouths and spotted bass. Whites and hybrids continue roaming Little River and being caught on points alongside the Largemouths using Bomber & XCalibur crankbaits in Threadfin Shad colors close to grass and pads. Whites also continue hitting Rat-L-Traps in chrome black zombie, or Spin-Traps in chrome/blue back on points and creek mouth junctions in 10-15 feet. But have disappeared with the current. Blue catfish continue to bite well on trotlines set between 12-16 feet deep in the outer river bends, baited with cut shad, buffalo, carp, drum or any cut bait or blood meal bait.

DEGRAY LAKE

Bass fishing is good. Best areas have been in the upper lake between Shouse Ford and Cox Creek. Run a Rat-L-Trap or medium-diving crankbait across secondary points in the big coves and in Beaton and Point Cedar creeks. With the water being discolored, try something with chartreuse or orange. Some nice spotted bass are showing up along the bluffs around points 14 and 15. Afternoons have been best, from noon to about 4 p.m. Crappie fishing is only fair. Try brush piles at 20 to 25 feet in major coves and creeks with live minnows on slip bobbers set to about 15 feet deep or a 2-inch grub or tube on a 1/16-ounce jighead. Hybrid fishing is picking up with the fish now in the major creeks and coves. Look for fish in Big Hill Creek, Yancey and the big cove at Lenox Marcus. Some fish also are in the Shouse Ford area. Trolling is still the best pattern since the fish are in small schools and are scattered at 15 to 20 feet deep. Troll a deep-diving crankbait, swim bait or five arm umbrella rig loaded with 4-inch curly

tail grubs. Keep your lures riding at about 12 feet or shallower. A few bream have been caught in the crappie attractors. Tight line a red worm or cricket near the bottom just outside the brush.
