Cotton courts mill workers during ‘Road to Victory’ tour

- By Jim Williamson

The “Road to Victory” for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tom Cotton was delayed early Tuesday morning when a train blocked the railroad crossing in front of the Domtar paper mill in Ashdown, Ark.

After the train moved and opened up the entrance, Cotton parked his campaign bus near the front of the mill entrance and greeted workers starting about 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The stop was part of Cotton’s Road to Victory tour for the seven campaign days before the Nov. 4 general election; the tour included 21 events, from rallies to meet-and-greet events.

Under the glow of the paper mill parking lot lights, Cotton heard comments from those supporting has candidacy against incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor and questions about who was paying for his campaign bus. Cotton explain his campaign bus was paid for through donations.

The majority of the workers shook his hand in silence and walked into the paper mill security entrance.

“Several said they’ve voted in the early vote for me,” Cotton said.

“So many want a new direction and to put Arkansas first,” he said.

Cotton says he supports conservative values and opposes President Barack Obama.

Cotton is the U.S. representative for the 4th Congressional District.
