Pryor is buoyed by early voting; senator stresses a ‘clear difference’

- By Jim Williamson

Early voting has encouraged incumbent U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., and he stressed a “clear difference exists” for voters in Arkansas’ U.S. Senate race.

Pryor, who is running for re-election, urged area residents to vote early during a campaign stop Tuesday afternoon at the Old Tyme Burger Shoppe in Texarkana, Ark.

“I want to start with the good news. Early voting in the state is up 35 percent, and 26 percent of the people voting early didn’t vote in 2010. There is going to be a big turnout in the election,” he said.

Statewide figures show 131,000 new voters.

“That’s a big increase. The big leader is Washington County, with an 150 percent increase in early voting,” Pryor said.

He said 84,000 volunteers have knocked on doors and made 133,000 telephone calls urging people to vote.

“We’re going the extra mile to get over the top,” he said.

“People recognize there is a clear choice in the Senate. I will work for bi-partisan solutions,” Pryor said.

“I will continue to be a voice in Washington, but Arkansas is written all over my heart,” he said.

Pryor is facing Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton, who serves the 4th Congressional District.

Pryor is the senior U.S. senator from Arkansas and has served since 2003.
