Churches offer alternative to Halloween activities
Several alternative celebrations to traditonal Halloween activities are available for area children this year.
Among those are Pinson Park Baptist Church, hosting its annual fall festival from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at 2621 E. 42nd St.
The free event includes a chili cook-off featuring chili made by several area residents.
Free hot dogs, chili and cornchip pies will be served, and carnival games, jump houses, face painting and a goodie-walk will be available during the evening.
The church will also feature a hayride with a live dramatization of the life of Jesus depicting his birth, miracles, the cross, resurrection and more. The presentation will be on the church’s 15-acre field, complete with generators and lights. The hayride will take people from scene to scene, with each site narrated by the church’s youth ministry.
“We have lots of candy, and everything is free,” said the Rev. Jay Stine, pastor, inviting area residents to attend the event designed for the whole family.
