More than 6,000 have taken part in early voting
More than 6,000 ballots have been cast so far during Bowie County’s early voting period for Texas’ Nov. 4 general election, county election information shows.
Total votes cast since early voting started Oct. 20 through Monday is 6,019, information shows. Early voting ends Friday. In Bowie County, early voting locations are Bi-State Justice Building in downtown Texarkana and the courthouse in New Boston.
Each place is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and voters must present a photo ID to cast a ballot.
Voters must go to their precinct polling place on Election Day, and the Gazette will publish a list of polling places at election time.
Local candidates and measures, along with state and federal offices and a constitutional amendment proposition, will be on the ballot.
All Bowie County voters may cast ballots for the county judge and county treasurer races and Texarkana College Board of Trustees race.
Incumbent Bowie County Judge Sterling Lacy is challenged by former County Judge James Carlow, and incumbent Bowie County Treasurer Donna Burns is challenged by Barry Crabbe.
Three candidates are vying for a countywide seat on the TC board, including Melvin Banks, Kaye Ellison and Charles Smith.
Texarkana voters will consider a measure to legalize selling beer and wine within the city, along with three amendments to the city's charter. They are:
n Amendment 3, which will give the city another month to adopt the budget each year;
n Amendment 5, which approves four-year terms instead of two-year-terms for council members;
n and Amendment 6, which addresses filling municipal board vacancies.
Texarkana Independent School District voters will decide the fate of a $29.9 million bond for buildings.
Wake Village residents will decide whether to legalize the sale of beer and wine within the city.
State races include governor and lieutenant governor, among others, and voters will consider candidates for U.S. senator.
