TO THE EDITOR:

TISD voters have an opportunity to make a difference in the future of education in Texarkana. The teachers, staff, and administrators continuously seek to provide a sound fundamental education for all students while also offering a wide range of additional classroom and extracurricular options that promote the overall growth of every student. Because of this, TISD has been able to provide an exceptional education to those students residing in TISD, and it has also attracted some of the best and brightest students from outside of the school district. The quality of the educational experience for every student in TISD is demonstrated through the continual growth of the student population over the course of the past 12 years. During this time, TISD has grown by an average of 146 students per year, growing from 5,635 students in 2002 to a current enrollment of 7,243. Another example in which the quality of a TISD education is demonstrated is by the numerous honors obtained by graduating seniors every year, including record numbers of scholarships and even National Merit Scholars. TISD has worked within its means over the past 12 years to help its students accomplish these significant achievements. It is because of TISD’s reputation for providing the highest quality educational opportunities for every student it serves that TISD now finds itself at or above capacity. To be able to continue to provide the same educational and extracurricular opportunities for current and future students it is critical that the community stand up in support of the current TISD bond request. A new elementary school and sixth-grade center will enable TISD to alleviate their current capacity issues so that it can continue to provide the same educational opportunities that make TISD students sought after by universities and in the work place. Supporting the TISD bond election will not only allow TISD to continue providing an exceptional education to our students, but it will also make Texarkana, U.S.A., a better place to live and raise our families.
