Redwater opens district with shutout over Prairiland

REDWATER, Texas—Tyler Dewitt and T.J. Braley each scored for Redwater, and the Dragons shut out Prairiland, 13-0, to open District 7-3A, Div. I play Friday.

The Dragons (2-4, 1-0) had 303 total yards while limiting the Patriots (4-2, 0-1) to 172.

Robert Candelaria rushed 12 times for 83 yards for the Dragons, and Braley added nine totes for 72, including a long of 50 yards.

HOOKS 40, LINDEN-KILDARE 13

LINDEN, Texas—Hooks opened 7-3A, Div. II play with a 27-point win over host Linden-Kildare.

The Hornets (5-1, 1-0) were led by Jordan Johnson with 162 yards on 13 carries, and ReShawn Parker with 111 yards on 17 carries.

After an evenly played 1st quarter, the Hornets pulled away, while shutting down the Tigers (2-4, 0-1) the rest of the way. Johnson had touchdown runs of 41, 2 and 1-yard, as well as a 10-yard pass to Montrell Estell in the 3rd quarter. The Hornets had 349-yards rushing, while holding the Tigers to 93 yards. The Hornets also forced 2 turnovers.

The Tigers were led by Marcus Jones with 87 yards on seven carries and Micah Harrison with 71 yards on 21 carries in a losing effort.

NEW BOSTON 47, MOUNT VERNON 26

NEW BOSTON, Texas—New Boston picked up a win against Mount Vernon.

Phillip Sissons threw for 248 yards, rushed for 115 yards, and had four total touchdowns for the Lions. Todd Rigsby had four receptions for 160 yards.

At halftime New Boston led Mount Vernon 21-7.

In the third quarter Sisson and Rigbsy connected twice and went up on Mount Vernon 34-6.

Both teams scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough for Mount Veron to take the win.

Bailey Floyd threw two touchdowns for Mount Vernon. Kevi Evans rushed for eight yard touchdown run and caught a 21 yard TD pass form Bailey Ford for Mount Vernon.

New Boston had a total of 461 yard total of offense and Mount Vernon had a total of 391 yard of offense.

HUGHES SPRINGS 43, QUEEN CITY 24

QUEEN CITY, Texas—Gabe DuBose paced a punishing Hughes Springs ground attack with 192 yards and three touchdowns on just 18 carries, leading the Mustangs to a 43-24 win over Queen City in the District 7-3A Division II opener for both teams.

Malik Chism added 140 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Shamori Ivory finished with 85 yards on just two carries, and Dedrick Hill had 47 yards on four carries.

Ivory opened the scoring with a 75-yard run, and after Queen City made it a 14-8 contest DuBose (1 yards) and Chism (20 yards) added TD runs to put the Mustangs on top 22-8.

Queen City brought a kickoff back 95 yards and later added a 36-yard TD run to make it interestin­g, but DuBose scored on runs of 10 and 68 yards and Chism added a 4-yard TD run to put the game away for the Mustangs.

Hughes Springs (5-1, 1-0) will host Hooks and Queen City (0-6, 0-1) will host Paul Pewitt next Friday.
