Local runners place first, third in varsity track

LONGVIEW, Texas—Owen Likins finished third for Texas High’s varsity boys with a 17:24 at the Pine Tree cross country meet Saturday.

Anna Cree was the Tigers’ top varsity girls runner with a 24:42 clocking and 11th-place finish.

Paige Eaton was 16th in the junior varsity 2-mile run for Texas High.

Texas Middle School’s Kalea Edmonds was 7th with a 16:32, while Haak Chessir finished 13th for the Tigers’ middle school boys.

Pleasant Grove’s Katie Hutchenson finished 11th in varsity girls as she ran a 15:17. Cade Haak was the top Hawks’ varsity boys runner with a 14:56, placing 14th.

Delia Tuttlebee crossed the line in sixth place for Pleasant Grove’s middle school girls. Tuttlebee ran a 16:26. Sam Hacker was the first middle school boys Hawk runner with a 22:02, a 21st-place finish.

Volleyball

Lady Brahmas win tourney

NEW BOSTON, Texas—Kailyn Jones slapped in 18 service points as Paul Pewitt’s eighth grade defeated Red Lick, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15, to claim first place Saturday at the New Boston middle school volleyball tournament.

Madison Wadsworth led the Lady Mustangs with seven points.

Alyssa Little had a match-high 33 points to propel New Boston over North Heights, 25-2, 25-13, in the third-place match. Brianna Brewer served in three points for the Lady Backs.

Kaylee Tilbury served in 13 winners as Red Lick’s seventh grade finished first with a 25-19, 25-22 win over DeKalb.

Hanna Mullins paced the Lady Bears with eight points.

Paul Pewitt’s Sam Mongognia had 14 points as the Brahmas defeated the New Boston B team, 25-11, 25-10, in the seventh-grade, third-place match.

Jayden Smallwood served five points for the Lady Lions.
