The presidenti­al debate— They’ve been throwing long-distance verbal jabs at one another for months. On Monday the candidates—Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump—finally come face to face on the same stage at New York’s Hofstra University in the first of three scheduled debates. Judging from the spiteful tone of the campaign, this could get ugly. NBC anchor Lester Holt will be the referee, er, moderator. 8 p.m. on all the broadcast networks and cable news channels.

Sunday

As “Once Upon a Time” launches its sixth season, Emma incurs a mysterious side effect. Meanwhile, refugees from the Land of Untold Stories invade Storybrook­e, and, in a flashback, Jafar confronts Aladdin. 7 p.m, ABC.

What new twists can “The Simpsons” possibly deliver in the show’s 26th season? For starters, we’ll meet Mr. Burns’ mother in a childhood flashback and she’s voiced by none other than Amy Schumer. 7 p.m., Fox.

Monday

On “The Big Bang Theory,” the guys are in a tizzy when an Air Force big shot approaches them about their revolution­ary guidance system project. Elsewhere, Penny accidental­ly leaks news of Bernadette’s pregnancy to the mom-to-be’s coworkers. 7 p.m., CBS.

Tuesday

“Frontline” revives its excellent election-year series, “The Choice.” It’s a side-by-side biographic­al look at Clinton and Trump that delves behind the headlines to examine what life experience­s shaped them, how they lead and why they covet one of the toughest jobs around. 8 p.m., PBS.

On the harrowing new post-apocalypti­c thriller “Aftermath,” it’s the end of the world as they know it. We follow

one family as it deals with supernatur­al creatures and various disasters. Anne Heche and James Tupper head the cast. 9 p.m., Syfy.

Wednesday

■ “Criminal Minds” begins its 12th season needing to fill the void left by Shemar Moore, who quit, and Thomas Gibson, who was fired. In their place, Paget Brewster and Aisha Tyler were upped to series regulars, and Adam Rodriguez was brought on as a new agent. 8 p.m., CBS.

■ The Season 3 opener of “Younger” finds Liza sending Caitlin off to college. Meanwhile, she continues to weigh her feelings for Josh and Charles—the two guys tugging at her heart. 9 p.m., TV land.

Thursday

■ On “The Blacklist,” Red enlists Tom and the Task Force to help track a notorious bounty hunter who may know Alexander Kirk’s next move. Meanwhile, Liz struggles to determine if Kirk is trustworth­y. 9 p.m., NBC.

Friday

■ The new season of “Hawaii Five-0” continues as the team works with a rogue MI-6 agent (guest star Chris Vance) to find a terrorist who is planning to cause nuclear reactors all across Europe to melt down. 8 p.m., CBS.

Saturday

■ “Versailles” is a lavish and lusty new period drama that whisks viewers back to a time when a 28-year-old King Louis XIV of France yearns to build the most beautiful palace in Europe. Of course, complicati­ons and intrigue ensue. 9 p.m., Ovation.
