Sheridan capitalizes on Arkansas High’s inexperience

- By Bob Krayl

Arkansas High's Lady Backs are a very young volleyball team and still learning. Sheridan took advantage of the Lady Backs inexperience to easily win in three sets, 25-18, 25-11, 25-21 at Razorback Gym Thursday. “We're very young and have to figure things out, ”said AHS coach Kelsey Jackson. “We're in a learning process, and have to play hard every game. We didn't play our best game tonight. This was a good warmup game for us.” This was a filler game for Sheridan since there is only five teams in their district. Sheridan grabbed an early 7-2 lead in the first game, but several unforced errors by the Lady Jackets knotted the score, 8-8. Sheridan then scored six straight points and went on to win, 25-18. In the second game, AHS scored the first three points before Sheridan outscored AHS, 10-2, to lead, 10-5, forcing a timeout by the Lady Backs. It didn't help much as Sheridan tacked on four more points for a big, 14-5 advantage. Presley Stewart had nine service points during the run, as Sheridan took the game, 25-11. Sheridan jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third game and maintained an 6-8 point lead throughout most of the game. Tatiyana Johnson had five service points near the end to pull AHS within, 24-21. Brooklyn Brewer led the Lady Backs with 10 service points and four kills. Johnson had nine digs along with the five service points, and Megan Holder had four blocks and four kills. Sheridan also won the junior varsity game, 25-23. AHS held an 18-12 lead before Lady Jackets outscored AHS, 13-5, at the end.
