Eagles pull out victory after extra innings

The operatic fat lady refused to sing Saturday at George Dobson Field.

It took 13 innings for Texas A&M University-Texarkana to squeak out a 6-5 win over Our Lady of the Lake University.

Cade Thomason led off the 13th with a single to right field, and, one batter later, Bronson Butcher singled to left as Thomason advanced to second for the Eagles. Heath Eubanks

came in to run for Thomason.

George Gugino walked to load the bases, and Cade Davis knocked a walk-off drive to right field to score Eubanks.

Starting Eagle pitcher Jason Jones went 4 1-3 innings, gave up seven hits, four earned runs, and struck out four. Teammate Neiko Yribe, in relief, pitched 8 2-3 innings, gave up six hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out three.

Cole Beckham, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a fielder’s choice for A&M-Texarkana’s first run in the second frame. Cameron Frost, who had singled through the hole at short, scored on a fielder’s choice to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Davis singled to left to lead off the fifth for A&MTexarkana. Darren Alexander reached on an error, and Frost walked to load the bases. Kolton Perfect reached first when Frost was thrown out at second and Davis scored on a fielder’s choice.

The Eagles got two more runs across when Thomason doubled to center to make it 5-4. The Saints scored the game-tying run in the seventh inning. No runs crossed the plate after until the 13th stanza.

Thomason went 2 for 6 with 3 RBI for A&M-Texarkana, while teammate Davis was 3 of 6 with 1 RBI. Butcher went 2 for 5 for the Eagles.
