Jones wins his 600th game in Eagles’ split

ALEXANDRIA, La.—Texas A&M University-Texarkana head baseball coach Steve Jones won his 600th career game as the Eagles defeated LSUAlexand­ria, 20-7, in their second game of a doublehead­er.

The Eagles banged out 18 hits. A&M-Texarkana went 33-20 last season under Jones and are 17-14 with a mark of 8-3 in conference this year.

The Eagles jumped out with seven runs on seven hits in the first inning of the second game. Cameron Frost hammered a triple to left center as two runs crossed. Cade Thomason singled to left center to score Frost. With one on and one out, Nick Anderson doubled to center.

Chasen Partridge belted a 3-run homer over the left field fence to make it 6-0. Kolton Perfect tripled down the right field line, and Cole Beckham drove him in on a single to right center.

With the bases loaded in the third, Frost singled to center to score Chase Beebe and Perfect. The Eagles added one run in the fourth on a solo round tripper by Ethan Davis.

Ethan Davis singled to left to score Frost in the fifth inning, and Beebe smacked a single to left to score Thomason. A few batters later, Perfect hit a single to left as Beebe and Ethan Davis scored to make it 14-6.

A&M-Texarkana put up five runs in the sixth. With the bases loaded, Beebe hit a single through the hole at short to score Frost and Thomason. Beebe and Alex Kugler scored on a single by Wyatt Miller. A few batters later, Miller scored on a wild pitch to put the Eagles up 19-6.

George Gugino led off the seventh with a double and advanced to third on single by Bryce Hudson. Madison Roberts hit a deep sacrifice fly to right center as Gugino scored.

The Eagles were edged in the first game 11-10, but jumped out hot with five runs in the first.

Beckham led off with a double, and Bronson Butcher tripled to right center for A&MTexarkana to score pinch runner Heath Eubanks. Frost tripled and scored on Thomason’s single to left.

Thomason advanced on an error, and Anderson brought him home on a single up the middle. Anderson reached second on a fielder’s choice, and Perfect got him home on a hit to center.

A&M-Texarkana’s Perfect singled through the hole at short to score Anderson in the third frame.

Beebe smacked a 2-run single in the fourth for the Eagles.

Frost doubled to right field to score Beckham, who had walked in the fifth stanza. Thomason batted in Frost on a double to right center.

The Eagles play at Ouachita Baptist University at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
