Texas High sweeps Deon Minor Wildcat Relays

PARIS, Texas—Texas High’s varsity and junior varsity teams swept the Deon Minor Wildcat Relays on Thursday.

Texas High amassed 155 points, and Mount Pleasant was second with 142. The junior varsity girls had 169, which was 61 more than second place Denison.

Texas High’s varsity boys scored 197, while North Lamar took second with 108. Mount Pleasant was fifth with 53 points.

Unique McBride ran the 200 meter dash in 26.69 for first place, and 10 points for Texas High. Teammate Chantiauna Meadows took gold in the 400 meters, and Ohemaa Barnes was fastest in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Ashunte Collins, Sa’deya Finley, Amiyah Rone and McBride crossed the line first in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, and Texas High’s Meadows, Emerald King, Faith West, and Collins took gold in the 4x400.

Hannah Higgins, who finished third in the shot put, was first in discus for Texas High, while teammate West was second in the 800 meters. Also, Alyssa Higgins got third in the discus.

Emily Brown, Jasmin Martinez, and Estela Dorantes finished 1-2-3, respective­ly, in the 1600 meters for Mount Pleasant. Brown, Dorantes, and Ramirez were 1-2-3, respective­ly in the 3200.

Sakaria Grant and Alexia NanceThomp­son earned first and second, respective­ly, in the long jump for Mount Pleasant. Grant and Nance-Thompson were second on third, respective­ly, in the triple jump.

Second place finishers for Mount Pleasant included Taidre’ana Wilkerson in the 200, and Ka Tonna Turner in the 300 hurdles. Mount Pleasant’s Jasmin Martinez was third in the 800 meters.

Owen Likins and William Harrell went 1-2, respective­ly, in the 1600 and the 3200 for Texas High. Teammates Mason Jones and Darryl Maxwell were 1-2, respective­ly, in the 200.

Deterryon Hunter took gold in the 300 hurdles, and teammate Likins was first in the 800 for Texas High. Also, Justin Franklin, Kaveone Ragland, Josh Mitchell and Tashun Richardson crossed the line first in the 4x400.

Richardson and Franklin went 2-3, respective­ly, in the 400 for Texas High, while teammate Hunter was second in the 110 hurdles.

Mitchell took silver in the 800, and Calvin Young was third in the 300 hurdles for Texas High. Teammates Collius Zachary, Ragland, Jaqualen Brown and Jones were second in the 4x200.

Tevailance Hunt in the triple jump, Calvin Young in the 300 hurdles, and Leonard Parks in the shot put were all third place finishers for Texas High.

First place competitor­s for Mount Pleasant included Tex Epps (shot put), Caleb Johnson (discus), and Asheton Brown (high jump).

Texas High’s junior varsity boys totaled 164.25 points with Paris second with 151. Texas High’s jayvee girls won with 169 points, while Denison was second with 108.

Junior varsity Texas High boys who earned gold were Alex Cannon (1600), Zack Willis (400), Corey Webb (800), Gary Royal (long jump), and Marquaviou­s Fisher (high jump).

Fisher, Dra Woodruff, Royal, and Treci Cooper crossed the line first in the 4x200 for Texas High’s JV. Teammates Elias Thurman, Caleb Legrand, Woodruff, and Willis earned gold in the 4x400.

First place finishers for Texas High’ junior varsity girls included Dashia Mixon (100 and 200), Clynisha O’Guin (400), Ayalina Moss (100 and 300 hurdles), Rikia Johnson (shot put and discus), and Breaja James (high jump).

The team of James, Deavyon Ross, Alexis Barrera, and Jasmine Jones took gold in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. James, Mixon, Jones, and Barrera got first in the 4x400.

BILL HINES RELAYS

LINDEN, Texas—Hughes Springs’ varsity girls totaled 182 point, and its varsity boys had 145 as the Mustangs emerged as champions at the Bill Hines Relays at Jack Hetheringt­on Stadium.

Queen City’s girls were second with 111, and Linden-Kildare boys were runner-up with 130 points.

The junior varsity contest was won by Queen City who totaled 145.5 with Jefferson second with 141 points.

First place individual finishers for Hughes Springs’ girls included Andrea Franklin (shot put), Bailey Sampson (long jump and 400 meters), Jaycee Alexander (1600 and 3200 meters).

The team of Sakiyah Simmons, Sampson, Aliyah Crowder, and Tamra Jones took gold in the 4x100 for the Lady Mustangs.

For Queen City’s first place competitor­s it was CeCe Walker in the high jump, Madi Jones in the 800 meters, and McKinlee Russell in the 100 hurdles.

The Lady Bulldogs’ Carsen Simpson, Jacie Lance, Jones, and Jaylee Stringer earned the top spot in the 4x400.

Top finishers for Paul Pewitt’s girls were Ariana Motley (pole vault), and Katie Turner (100 and 200 meters). Paul Pewitt finished fourth with 97 points.

Hughes Springs defeated LindenKild­are by 15 points in the boys’ contest.

First place participan­ts for the Mustangs were Jaden Alexander (3200), Tristian Price (800), and Trey Beam (100 and 300 hurdles).

J.J. Jones, Price, Tony Kemp, and Chandler King took gold in the 4x400 for Hughes Springs.

Linden-Kildare’s first place winners were Marcus Jones in the long jump, Ja’Kevian Rose in the triple jump, Ty Patterson in the high jump, and Micah Harrison in the 200.

McLeod’s J.R Smith earned the gold in the shot put and discus, while teammate Zach Mauldin crossed the line first in the 1600.

D.J. Turner won the 400 meter dash for Paul Pewitt.
