Atlanta blanks Van, 4-0

Lady Rabbs pitcher Kelly gives up no runs on just five hits

- By Earl Gill

GREENVILLE, Texas— Atlanta proved that what happened in the regular season and rankings are futile in postseason play.

Atlanta defeated district champion Van, 4-0, in Greenville at Lady Lion Field.

“Our girls never quit and never stopped believing. We’re not your typical fourth seed,” Atlanta head softball coach Tobi Dunlap. “We had some injuries and we just got back healthy but we’re a little better than a fourth seed.”

Kaydee Kelly propelled the Lady Rabbs to the next round from the pitcher’s circle.

Kelly gave up no runs, five hits and walked one in seven innings worth of work.

“Kaydee Kelly pitched great for us both games. We played great defensively behind her,” Dunlap said. “The girls went out tonight and played extremely hard for one another.”

Victoria Bergt and Amanda Whatley, both made diving snags in the outfield that pre-

vented Lady Vandals runs.

Atlanta exposed Van’s fatigue, by stealing bases when given the opportunity.

Alyssa Simmons and Kinsey Kelly, each stole two bases apiece for the Lady Rabbits.

Kelly also went 2 for 4 at the dish for Atlanta.

Victoria Johnson went 2 for 4 for the Lady Rabbits at the plate, chipping in an RBI before her night was finished.

“This was a little pay back. Two years ago, they put us out in the same fashion. We have the potential to play for a while,” Dunlap. “As long as the girls play sound defensively and aggressive on the base path, we can play with anybody.” Atlanta 012 000 1 — 4 10 1 Van 000 000 0 — 0 5 4
