Genoa Central girls, Prescott boys win at 3A state meet
PRESCOTT, Ark.—Genoa Central’s girls dominated at the Arkansas 3A state track and field meet, and Prescott’s boys won the championship at Eddie Jackson Field at Cummins Stadium Tuesday. The Lady Dragons defeated runner-up Harding Academy 117-64 and clinched their third straight title.
“It feels great, and winning never gets old,” Genoa Central head coach John Murphy said. “The girls have been working extremely hard. I had one or two quit, but the rest stuck in there and ran their guts out.”
Mary Prewitt, Sara Tedford, Taylor Bowman, and Elizabeth Clinton set a new Arkansas 3A state record in the 4x400 with a 4:15.18.
The Curley Wolves defeated runner-up Genoa Central 109-68.5.
“We’ve been working hard and hoping that we could be the champions,” Prescott head coach Brian Glass said. “Now that it has come to pass, it doesn’t get any better than this.”
Prescott’s 4x400 relay team of Deonte Jamison, Jamozyia Williamson, Adrian Block and Ryan Johnson set an Arkansas 3A state record with a 3:26.90.
Bowman, Hannah Howry, Tera Frost, and Janie Bentley earned first for Genoa Central in the 4x800 relay.
Eden Crow hit the daily double as she had the best toss in the discus and in the shot put for GC.
Genoa Central’s Tyler Moreland hit the trifecta as he won the discus, 110 hurdles and 300 hurldes. Moreland set a new Arkansas 3A state record in the 300 hurdles with a 39.79.
Moreland was the second best male athlete with 35.5 points. Junction City’s CJ Johnson was first with 38 points.
Prescott’s 4x800 relay team of Jamozyia Williamson, Trey Rucker, Quontravious Caldwell and Ryan Johnson were best.
Deonte Jamison won the triple jump for the Curley Wolves.
Allie Hensley of Clinton was the top female athlete with 37 points.
