Shreveport’s Kirkley takes title at doubles disc golf event

Shreveport's Brian Kirkley and Eric Rasmussen captured the Open disc golf title in the Southern Arkansas University doubles charity event at the Texarkana Disc Golf Associatio­n course at Spring Lake Park Saturday.

The pair edged out Texarkana's Cody Engstrom and Shreveport's Kevin Pelton by one stroke.

Kirkley- Rasmussen posted rounds of 44-50 for a 36-hole total of 94, while Engstrom-Pelton recorded rounds of 41-54 for a 95.

Third place went to Chase SteedJerry Ray with a 43-54 total of 97.

Just below the Open division was the Advanced which was won by the father-son team of Brian and Timothy Hawthorne with scores of 44-57 for a total of 101.

Mike Bias and Mike Miller placed second at 46-57 (103), and coming in third was Chris Kirkley and Jeremy Lewis, 47-59 (106).

There were 27 doubles teams that participat­ed In five divisions of the tournament that was a fund-raiser for the SAU disc golf team.

The top three places in the other divisions are as follows:

Intermedia­te: 1. Brothers Layton Hawthorne- Lex Hawthorne (108); 2. Bob Slieder-Bob Slieder, Jr. (113); 3. Jason Kennedy-K.Kennedy (116).

Mixed: 1. Mitch Trotter-Eizel Faret (104); 2. Jim Enns-Macey Enns (108); 3. Parker SipponEliz­abeth Gillette (113).

Women: 1. Laure' Kennedy and Jordan Engstrom (121). Only one entry.
