Five THS students win national photo contest
Five Texas High School Commercial Photography students have won the national 2017 Jostens Photo Contest.
Eighty-five awards were given in the annual competition, which is co-sponsored by Jostens and Wolfe’s Camera. The competition celebrates the creative an innovative talents of student photographers from schools across the country and empowers students to positively capture their school experiences and share those stories through photography.
An estimated 4,000 student photographers from across the country submitted entries. Submissions were judged by a panel of four judges consisting of professional photographers and photography instructors. The judges focused on composition, artistic merit and technical qualities, as well as the ability to convey a compelling story.
Nine categories were featured in this year’s contest: Academics/ Community Service, Graduation, Photo Illustration/ Manipulation, Portrait, ReplayIt Mobile, Sports: Athletes in Action, Sports: Sidelines & School Spirit, Student Life & Traditions and Yearbookers in Action. The winners are: Kayleigh Moreland— First Place Graduation and Honorable Mention Sports Action;
Lauren Maynard—First Place Photo Illustration and Fifth Place Graduation;
Racheal Sizemore—Second Place Sports Action
Alyssa Kift—Fourth Place Sports Sidelines and Honorable Mention Sports Sidelines;
Morgan Bonner—Honorable Mention Sports Action.
