Twins continue home winning streak

- By Louie Avery

There's no place like home for the Texarkana Twins.

The Twins extended their home winning streak to four games Saturday at George Dobson Field, beating the Texas Marshals, 9-0, completing a game that started Friday, but was postponed by inclement weather.

Texarkana (8-16) broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning of the seven-inning second game, stringing four straight hits for four runs and an 8-1 win.

Chandler Robertson dragged a bunt past losing pitcher Wes Engle for a hit to start the Twins' fifth. Troy Black then singled to right, his third hit of the game. Alex Rodriquez and Kyle Bottger followed with doubles to make it 5-1.

The Twins put the game out of reach with three more runs in the sixth with Joseph Shepherd clearing a bases-loaded situation with a double off the left field fence.

Southpaw Ben Donnell recorded his third pitching win, but it didn't come as easy as the final score indicated.

The Marshals had baserunners reach second or third in every inning against Donnell. Texas scored its only run of the day in the fourth on a double by Phillip Kunsa and singles by Jaylon Keys and Connor Scruggs.

Both teams stranded 10 runners in the game.

Rodriguez, who joined the Twins last week, continued his hitting terror with a double and single.

In Saturday's first game, righthander Billy Fogle took over for Trey Jeans on the mound. Jeans had pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. Fogle, who got the win, scattered four hits and struck out two in completing the shutout.

Rodriguez and Bottger were the offensive heroes, both hitting home runs and contributing two hits each.

The Twins host Victoria the next two nights. The Generals are unbeaten (6-0) against Texarkana.
