Hogs rout Titans in state tuneup game

- By Josh Richert Sports Editor

The Red River Credit Union/ TABA Texarkana Razorbacks were sharp in all aspects of the game in their final tuneup for the American Legion Arkansas state baseball tournament.

Five Razorbacks combined on a 2-hitter over nine innings, the Hogs banged out 18 hits and routed the Arkansas Titans—a Dixie team from the Prescott area—19-1 Tuesday at Joe Blagg Field.

Texarkana begins defense of its state title Friday in a 7 p.m. tilt against Searcy in Conway, Ark.

Austin Stubber allowed one hit in three innings in the start, winning reliever Kaden Tollett had seven strikeouts in three hitless innings, and Justin Swecker and Logan Vidrine each pitched a perfect inning. After hitting two batters, Beau Burson gave up an RBI double to Jacob Sharp for the Titans' lone run. He and Vidrine each had two strikeouts in their respective inning of work.

Riley Orr and Parker Ribble were each 3 for 4 for the Razorbacks, and Tyler Moreland was 3 for 5 with a home run and triple.

Orr walked in the first, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. He eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Kade Garmany walked on four pitches to lead off the bottom of the second inning, and Vidrine singled to left with two outs to make it 2-0. After a walk and bunt single by Orr loaded the bases, Vidrine came home on a pitch that reached the backstop.

Ribble smashed a stand-up RBI double in the fourth, and Orr plated him with a liner to left. Burson's sacrifice fly made it 6-0 Texarkana later in the inning.

The Razorbacks more than doubled the margin of the lead in the fifth.

A pair of errors were sandwiched around Moreland's stand-up triple. A 1-out walk and infield single were followed by Will Smith's 2-run double to the wall in left-center.

Burson tripled into the right-field corner to drive in two more, and he scored on the play when the defense turned their focus away from him as play continued.

In the eighth inning Texarkana continued to pour on the offense, batting around for the second time in the game.

Moreland led off with a solo home run to left, and an error preceded Ribble's double to left.

Orr singled in a run, as did Stubber before a pair of outs. Garmany hammered a 2-run double into the alley in right-center, Cole Boyd singled, and Moreland had another RBI hit to finish up the scoring.
