Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright head to Kentucky

- TV Media By Lindsay Scharf

Southern fare: While “Vanderpump Rules” is still raking in the viewers, Bravo presents a new spinoff series: “Vanderpump Rules: Jax and Brittany Take Kentucky” premieres Wednesday, Aug. 23, and should tide fans over until season 6 of its parent series premieres, likely sometime in November.

As the title suggests, the new show follows Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright, an unlikely couple whose whirlwind romance stole the hearts of many “Vanderpump Rules” viewers. Jax, a former model and drama-loving party boy, fell in love with Brittany, a sweet southern belle who hopes to start a family, when they met at a Hooters restaurant, and the rest, as they say, is reality TV history.

Turns out that history is still in the making, though. As they travel to Brittany’s hometown and stay with her family on their farm, she introduces viewers to her loved ones, including her dad, her grandmother and her best friend. Jax, meanwhile, struggles to learn the ins and outs of chores around the farm. While viewers are treated to a more country-styled Jax (complete with cowboy hat, boots AND overalls!), there is evidence of growing tension between the two sweethearts.

Brittany’s family is a far cry from what Jax is used to, and they expect more conservative behavior than he’s likely to exhibit. There’s a lot of speculation that the real reason Jax and Brittany spun off and headed to Kentucky is to try to save their relationship. With all their differences, the conflicts between them are growing nastier, and the pair has a lot to do in order to keep things together.

In a clip of the new series, Brittany outlines some of the expectations Jax needs to meet in order to keep her on the hook: “He would have to bring himself down a notch and realize he is not the big man on campus all the time. He needs to be a little bit more levelheaded.” His anger issues and overreactions are also apparently an issue.

Find out whether opposites attract enough to keep this couple together when “Vanderpump Rules: Jax and Brittany Take Kentucky” premieres Wednesday, Aug. 23, on Bravo.

Beautiful people: A new episode of reality TV series “Growing Up Supermodel” airs Tuesday, Aug. 22, on Showtime, and gives viewers an inside scoop on what it’s really like to be a model. The series follows the children of famous actors, sports professionals and models as they try to make a name for themselves in the modeling world.

The cast includes Cambrie and Faith Schroder (daughters of Ricky Schroder, “NYPD Blue”), Atiana De La Hoya (daughter of famous boxer Oscar De La Hoya), Arissa Le Brock (daughter of supermodel/actor Kelly Le Brock of

1985’s “Weird Science” and actor Steven Seagal of 1992’s “Under Seige”), Cairo Peele (daughter of model Beverly Peele), Jake Moritt (son of actor Krista Allen, “Days of Our Lives”) and Janis Ostojic (son of model JD Ostojic).

Throughout the series, you can expect to see the cast members posing in photo shoots together and separately, and the competition is sure to cause some tension as some of these young models have more experience than others. Viewers also get an exclusive look at the careers and families of the main cast members.

Having already been brought up by famous parents in the spotlight, these young people really feel the pressure to succeed in the business — some of their parents are even models, so the kids really do have a lot to live up to. For example, Le Brock explains how she constantly compares herself to her mother, which is doubly problematic since the up-and-comer is a plus-size model, unlike her mother. Though it’s like comparing apples to oranges, Le Brock can’t help torturing herself with the comparison.

Though fashion is one of the few industries dominated by women, there are a few male models headlining the cast, which provides viewers with a rare inside look at what it’s like for men in the modeling world. Make sure you tune in Tuesday, Aug. 22, when “Growing Up Supermodel” premieres on Showtime.

Flash back: VH1 provides viewers with a blast from the past when its new reality series “’90s House” premieres Tuesday, Aug. 22. Lance Bass of ‘N Sync fame hosts as a group of millennials is put in a house equipped only with 1990s technology. This means no smartphones, no Wi-Fi and — horror of horrors — only dial-up internet. The young contestants must learn to adapt and figure out how to do things the old way (bring back the yellow pages!).

There’s a recent uptick in ‘90s nostalgia, and teenagers especially are fascinated by this now-retro decade — VH1 knows its audience well. Though the station was once geared towards music lovers and aired music videos almost exclusively, it, like MTV, has found a great success in its original reality TV programming. Tune into its latest offering when “’90s House” premieres Tuesday, Aug. 22, on the cabler.
