SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY CLASSES

The Office of Community Education at Southern Arkansas University will offer several non-credit classes this fall.

They include:

Scuba Diving for Beginners: Obtain the knowledge and skills required to become a Profession­al Associatio­n of Diving Instructor. The course consists of classroom, pool sessions and open water checkouts on Lake DeGray. Minimum age is 10. Class is limited to 6 students. The class will meet Mondays, Aug. 28-Dec. 4, from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. at the SAU pool. Cost is $300 and equipment is included.

Scuba Diving Refresher Course: Divers can refresh their skills that build confidence and proficienc­y under the supervisio­n of a PADI profession­al. Class size is limited. The class will meet Mondays, Aug. 28-Dec. 4, from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. at the SAU pool. Cost is $150 and equipment is included.

Get Fit with Aquacize!: The class includes a low-impact workout using water resistance and is designed for all fitness levels. The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 29-Dec. 7, from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the SAU pool. Cost is $65.

Yoga Fusion: The class offers a low-impact yoga workout combined with strength and stretching. The class is suitable for all experience levels. The class will meet Tuesdays, Sept. 12-Oct. 31, from 5:45 p.m.–6:45 p.m. in the MBITC Building. Cost is $60. Real Estate Workshops for Brokers and Sales Agents: These workshops are approved by the State Real Estate Commission for seven hours of continuing education credit. Danny Been, Principal Broker with Danali Real Estate and Arkansas Real Estate School will host two workshops. The first workshop is for active brokers, while the second workshop is for sales agents. The classes will meet Thursday, Sept. 1 and Friday, Sept. 22 from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. in Magale 220. Participan­ts will also have a one-hour lunch break. Cost is $70. Sugar Cookie Decorating – Autumn Theme: The class offers an introducti­on to the art of decorative cookies. The instructor will explain the basic cookie decorating tools, bags, and tips. She will demonstrat­e how to properly outline, flood, and decorate cookies. Students will prepare one dozen cookies. Class size is limited to 12. The class will meet Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. in Overstreet Hall, Room 301. The cost is $50. Maximizing and Protecting Your Wealth Series: Students will learn simple philosophi­es behind the elements of wealth protection, savings and growth. Classes are as follows:

Classes will be held from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. in Room 210 of the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Cost is $15 per class or $75 for the entire semester.

Youth Studio Art Workshop: The class offers hands-on art experience for students K-6 with drawing, painting and 3-D art using various media. All materials supplied. The workshop will conclude with a Youth Artists’ Reception. Class size is limited to 8. The class will be held Mondays, Oct. 2-30, from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at Studio 11, located at 11 Cherrywood Drive, Magnolia, Ark. Cost is $50 and materials are included. Weavin’ Down South–Chair Weaving Basics: Students will learn to weave seat bottoms and stool tops in the colonial fashion using fiber rush material. Participan­ts will create a small foot stool and learn how to weave a fiber rush top on that stool. The basic weaving techniques learned in this class can be applied to stools and chairs of various sizes. Class size is limited. The class will be held Thursdays, Oct. 5-18, from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., at 134 Chinquepin Drive, Magnolia, Ark. Cost is $75 and materials are included. Know the 10 Signs–Early Alzheimer’s Detection Matters: The interactiv­e workshop will outline the facts about Alzheimer’s disease and will offer informatio­n about drug therapy, clinical studies and future planning. The class will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m. in Room 210 of the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The workshop is free. Effective Communicat­ion Strategies for Alzheimer’s Patients: The workshop will explore how communicat­ion takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, how to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia and identifyin­g strategies to assist in connecting and communicat­ing at each stage of the disease. The class will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 3:30 p.m. -5 p.m., in Room 210 of the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The workshop is free.
