Roger Wade Rice

Roger Wade Rice, age 83, of Atlanta, Texas went to sleep and awoke in the arms of Jesus, Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at his residence.

Roger was born June 1, 1934 in Texarkana, Arkansas the son of Y. G., Jr. and Fern Rice. He was a former basketball coach and the agent of Roger Rice State Farm Insurance for 55 years and a member of First Baptist Church, Atlanta. He enjoyed playing golf, the harmonica; and was an avid University of Arkansas Razorback fan. Roger never met a stranger. He loved life and spent much of his time at Caddo Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Jeane Rice and his parents.

He is survived by two sons, Phil Rice and wife Donna of Atlanta, Texas, Chuck Rice and wife Nancy of Atlanta, Texas; daughter, Lauren Smith and husband John of Calhoun, Louisiana; a brother, David Lynn Rice and wife Ellen of Glen Rose, Texas; five grandchildren, Sam Rice and wife Raegan of Atlanta, Texas, Ben Rice and wife Tiffany of New Caney, Texas, Connor Young-George Rice of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, John Garrett Smith of Calhoun, Louisiana, Camryn Rice of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Brody Rice of Atlanta, Texas, Colby “C.J.” Rice of Atlanta, Texas, Samantha Rice of New Caney, Texas; special friend, Delores Cooper of Monroe, Louisiana; and a number of nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends and very loyal policyholders.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Faith Community Church of The Nazarene, 104 North Louise Street, Atlanta, Texas.

A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
