Deer hunt for people with disabilities set for Oct. 27-29
The Southern Sportsmen Foundation will host a whitetail deer hunt for individuals with a severe mobility impairment or a life-threatening illness.
The foundation will also host a Hunt of a Lifetime Oct. 27-29 at Starch Creek Hunting Club near Mineral Springs, Ark. This event is for hunters up to 18 years old.
Youths must be able to arrive by 3 p.m. Oct. 26 for a pre-hunt orientation and be accompanied by at least one parent or legal guardian.
The adult hunt, nicknamed the Redneck Safari, will be Nov. 15-17 near Foreman, Ark.
Adult hunters must be able to arrive by 11 a.m. Nov. 15 and can bring a nonhunting companion. Six hunters with disabilities and two alternates will be drawn for this event. Every year, hunters have had numerous shot opportunities with most hunters bagging a deer, said Mike Cranford, president of the Southern Sportsmen Foundation.
For both hunts, lodging, meals and license will be provided by the foundation.
However, hunters will be responsible for travel expenses.
Hunters born after Dec. 31, 1968, and at least 16 years old must possess a valid hunter’s safety card. All applications must be received by Sept. 15. Hunters chosen will be notified by Sept. 30. Applications are available at sharingtheoutdoors.com
