Horatio at Murfreesboro
MURFREESBORO, Ark.—The Horatio Lions look to capitalize off their Week 1 performance, traveling to Murfreesboro to take on the Rattlers at 7 p.m. Horatio defeated Dierks, 21-8, while Murfreesboro fell to Centerpoint, 50-14.
The Lions have won three out of five in this series with Murfreesboro, including two in a row.
Zach Izzo led the Lions offense completing 4 of 7 passes, passing for a touchdown, interception and 53 yards. Izzo also rushed 24 times for 111 yards.
Senior tailback Tyler Chavez rushed six times for 40 yards and two scores. Chavez caught one pass for 14 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Chavez finished with eight tackles on the swarming Lions defense.
“We played really well up front in the opener,” Horatio first-year head football coach Robert Collum said. “Our offensive line really opened up some holes for our running game and also allowed Izzo time in the pocket to pass. We had good timing on our pass completions and I thought our kids played really hard in Week 1.”
“We were able to execute our defensive game-plan and come out with a win that was great for our program.”
The Rattlers started slow against Centerpoint, offering up four turnovers in the contest.
Murfreesboro gave up 454 yards in the season-opener against the Knights.
The Rattlers offense managed 205 yards of offense in Week 1.
“We’re going to have to be able to defend the pass or rush the quarterback against Murfreesboro,” Collum said.” They’ve some good athletes over there and we will have to be prepared for a hard fought game in the trenches.”
“Taking care of the football, staying healthy and executing our game-plan are keys to victory for us. Hopefully, we can do all of those things and start our season off 2-0.”
