A&M-Texarkana seeking entries for annual cook-off
The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Alumni Association is seeking chili teams for the third annual Eagle Chili Fest and Tailgate on Saturday, Oct. 14.
There is no cost to enter the competition, which will be on the University Center lawn of the A&M-Texarkana campus. Trophies will be awarded to the team with the best overall chili/ first place and for second place, third place, showmanship and people’s choice.
Teams may begin set up at 9 a.m. A minimum of three gallons of chili must be prepared so there is enough for distribution to the public.
The Eagle Chili Fest and Tailgate will open to the public at noon. Admission is free; however, one-time purchase chili sampling bowls will be available for $5, with proceeds benefiting student scholarships.
Tailgate activities will include a balloon artist, bounce houses, music and more.
The tailgate will continue until 3 p.m., when the Eagles women’s soccer team takes on Louisiana State University-Alexandria in a homecoming matchup. Homecoming queen and king will be crowned between the women’s and the men’s match, which begins at 5 p.m.
“The Eagle Chili Fest and Tailgate has quickly become a tradition at A&M-Texarkana with more than 20 teams participating in last year’s cookoff,” said Mark Missildine with the A&M-Texarkana alumni relations office. “We invite the entire Texarkana community to come out and join our Eagle family for an afternoon of great chili, family fun and actionpacked collegiate soccer.”
