Foreman, Spring Hill tangle to open conference
FOREMAN, Ark.—The Foreman Gators (2-0) host Spring Hill (1-2) as their homecoming opponent and to also begin conference competition.
Last week, Foreman blanked Horatio on the road, 47-0, and Spring Hill edged out Genoa Central in a nail-biter, 29-28.
“It always good to go into conference on a roll,” Foreman head football coach Mark King said. “Spring Hill is going to be a tough opponent and will also give us a different look than what we’ve seen.”
In two games this season, the Gators have given up 14 points, while scoring 89 in the process.
“We’ve faced some really good teams this season in our nonconference schedule,” Spring Hill head football coach Matt McBride said. “We’re starting to put things together each week but it certainly will not be any easier going forward with conference beginning.”
The Bears have scored 42 points in three games, while giving up 82 defensively.
“We haven’t committed many turnover this season,” McBride said.”Peyton Massanelli has done a wonderful job for us at quarterback this season. He gives us a chance to win every ballgame.”
Massanelli gas thrown for 471 yards with 26 completions on 62 attempts, three touchdowns and a interception. Massanelli also has 35 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.
Junior Gator quarterback Kyren Batey has torched
defenses on the ground already this season. Batey has 331 touchdowns on 21 carries and seven touchdowns.
“Kyren is a threat every time he touches the ball,” King said. “We have several other guys that can hurt you, so if you focus in on our quarterback, he will have to give the ball to someone else. That’s one of the main reasons we moved him to that position, you want your best athlete to be your quarterback in this system.”
“Defensively, we have played good enough to win,” McBride said. “We have bent but not break is how I would define our first three games. We’ve flown to the football and played sound defense since we started. You never want anyone to break off large chunks of yards against you but that’s something we will correct as we go forward.”
