GREENVILLE, Texas—Vonderic Stanley helped Texas High snuffed out Greenville's second-quarter momentum to win 40-20, Friday night, in a District 16-5A matchup at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium.

Stanley led the Tiger offense with five receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

The Tigers came into the game off a 48-point shutout out over Mount Pleasant. Last week, the Lions lost 56-14 to Marshall.

Greenville outplayed the Tigers through the air in the first half, picking up 238 yards on 11 completions.

Caleb Jarvis led two drives in the the last three minutes of the half to bring the trailing Lions back to even with the Tigers, 20-20.

When play resumed in the third stanza it was all Texas High.

Greenville took the first lead halfway through the opening quarter when Jarvis ran the ball in from the one; Koltin McNair put the extra point through the uprights.

Tevailance Hunt provided an answer for Texas High six plays later with a 21-yard pass from Riley Russell. A bad snap on the PAT left a single point between the teams, 7-6 Lions.

In the second frame the Tigers added to the margin with two more touchdowns; the first, a 56-yard pass to Hunt from Russell, and, the second, an 8-yard dash by Chris Lyles.

Despite having only three minutes to work with before the end of the half the Lions found themselves standing in the end zone not once but twice to knot up the contest at 20.

Greenville's receiver, Christian Dunson connected with Jarvis for an 18-yard pass at the 1:42 mark. Moments later the Lion's defense forced a timely interception that allowed the hosts to go 80 yards in two plays finishing with Donavon Smith grabbing 59-yard ace through the air from Jarvis.

Logan Snell scored the first points of the third quarter on the opening drive when he kicked a 26-yard field goal.

The Lion's were forced to a three-and-

out on their first drive. A short punt gave Texas High excellent field position and served as the Catalyst for a 6 play drive that culminated to Stanley snatching down a 25-yard pass from Russell. Snell's kick made it a two possession game, 30-20 in favor of Texas High.

The final period was an echo of the Tiger's third quarter performance with a second field goal by Snell and another hookup between Stanley and Russell, this time for 45 yards.

Greenville slips to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in district.

Texas High improves to 5-3 on the season and 3-1 in district and extends its winning streak to three games.

The Tigers will host Hallsville next Friday.
