Local dance students to perform in Macy’s Parade

- By Lori Dunn

Six students from Beyond Fierce Cheer and Dance Studio in New Boston will perform in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

“We have been working toward this since January,” said Beyond Fierce owner Janet Goldsmith.

The group has been holding fundraisers to help the students travel to New York.

“We have had a lot of bake sales,” Goldsmith said.

The annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, the world’s largest parade, is presented by the department store chain Macy’s. The three-hour event is held in Manhattan and has been televised nationally on NBC since 1952

The New Boston group leaves on the 18th and will return on Nov. 24, the day after Thanksgiving. While in New York, the students will attend two Broadway shows and visit attractions such as the Statue of Liberty.

“They are ecstatic to have this oppor-

tunity,” Goldsmith said.

The dancers sent in a video of their performance to audition for the parade. They will perform a cheer routine.

Deandra Goldsmith Beauvis is the cheer and dance coach.

Students who will perform in the parade are Dylan Perkins, Dionna Vargas, Savanah Hill, McKenzie Jackson, Victoria McCord and Ariana Aguilar. All but one, an eighth-grader, are high school students.

Beyond Fierce offers classes to students ages 3 to 18 in tap, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, competitive cheerleading and competitive dance.
