Lady Tigers beat Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Texas— Texas High built a 12-point lead in the first quarter and never trailed against host Mount Vernon during a 71-43 THS victory Tuesday in both teams’ season opener.

Antonia Porter (16 points) and Amiyah Rone (14) combined for 30 points to spark the visiting Lady Tigers. Eight different players scored at least five points for Texas High, which hosts Liberty-Eylau Friday.

Samantha Lowry had 14 points to lead MV, and Annie Coffey added 12.

Texas High won the junior varsity game, 24-16, with Ashlyn Stiger scoring eight points. Queen City 52, Pleasant Grove 45

QUEEN CITY, Texas—Jessica Jones poured in 27 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Queen City over Pleasant Grove, 52-45, in a girls varsity basketball game Tuesday.

Jacie Lance added 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Monique Walker had a teamhigh 16 points for the Lady Hawks (0-1), while teammate Sha’Nequa Henry helped out with 14.

Phoebe Robertson lit up the nets for 20 points, and Pleasant Grove rolled past QC in the junior varsity game, 71-23.

Keshawn Davis scored 18 points for the Hawks. Hannah Fitts led the Bulldogs with 11 points.

Pleasant Grove hosts Texas High Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Spring Hill 57, Gen. Central 47

GENOA, Ark.—Genoa Central couldn’t rebound from a slow start and fell to Spring Hill.

Christy Randle led Spring Hill with a game-high 19 points and teammate Graycee Barham added 15 more. Katie Rivera finished with 12.

Lady Dragons’ Alyssa Jackson netted 12 points and Victoria Hill scored 11.

Genoa’s JV squad took down the Lady Bears, 40-15, with Donna Jo Rowe leading the way with 15 points for the Lady Dragons.

Spring Hill’s Brooklyn Reed finished with seven points.

Genoa Central will be on the road Thursday when it goes up against Claiborne Academy in Haynesvill­e, and on Friday will host Gurdon. SULPHUR BLUFF, Texas— Jill Whitney recorded a doubleas Avery girls coasted past Sulphur Bluff in their season-opener.

Whitney finished with a team-high 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs, and Maggie Taylor and Cassidy Kelsoe added another 12 and six points, respective­ly.

Alexis Coughran contribute­d four rebounds and three steals in the win.

Waskom 48, Maud 43

MAUD, Texas—In a close contested game, it was Waskom that came out on top, defeating Maud.

Lady Cardinals’ Brianna Barnette scored 11 points and Alex Conkleton added another 10.

BLOOMBURG, Texas— Selena Moon scorched the nets for a game-high 23 points as McLeod cruised past Bloomburg behind a 21-point first quarter.

Jillian Ellis added 13 points in the Lady Longhorns’ victory.

Bloomburg’s Haley Campbell scored 20 points and Erin Evans finished with 11.

McLeod increases its record to 2-0, while Bloomburg goes to 2-1. DEKALB, Texas—Sydney Reynolds scored 17 points to lead Pittsburg to a 57-38 win over DeKalb.

Taylor Bullock had 15 points, and Sydney Waldrep added 11 for the Lady Rebels.

Kynli Holder hot the hot hand for the Lady Bears as she scored a game-high 18 points.

Sydnee McDaniel shot in five points, but DeKalb lost the junior varsity game, 26-18.

ATLANTA, Texas—Mason Garrett scorched the nets for 27 points, including seven 3-pointers, as Chapel Hill defeated Atlanta 71-59.

Ja’Mya Bishop added 14 points for the Lady Red Devils.

GENOA, Ark.—Trent Bearden kept the scorekeepe­r busy with 20 points, and Genoa Central’s junior high boys rolled past Spring Hill, 55-19.

Drew Mason added 14 points for the Dragons.
