Douglassville native turns 100
Margaret Frost of Douglassville, Texas, turned 100 on Dec. 12. She rounded that bend in style, replacing a hip a month ago and giving up driving a year ago.
Her son David now takes her where she wants to go. Often it’s shopping.
“I feel like I’m driving Miss Daisy,” David said at his mother’s centennial party.
The gathering was at Mimi’s Kitchen cafe in Marietta, one of Margaret’s favorite hangouts.
She goes there for noon lunch almost every weekday. It has a very hometown feel. No one will hardly notice you if you don’t stand out.
That’s Margaret, too. She has an understated style and always has, her friends say.
Her nails and hair are done each week, needed or not. Her dress and decor all seem natural because Margaret is particular and always has been.
“Very particular,” say her friends.
“She dresses very classy,” said granddaughter Jackie Frost Smith. “It may be a secret to her longevity.”
The Frosts are, of course, a long-lasting and well-known family in Douglassville. Margaret grew up in the historical but now -anished Cusetta. She is the daughter of Fannie and Paul McCoy.
Margaret is the first Frost to reach 100. She blew out the single birthday-cake candle without needing assistance. She even cut a piece of the chocolate cake and handed it to the photographer.
Margaret is now among a handful of others her age in Cass County.
And, by the way, let’s check those hands.
Were the nails beautifully done?
Indeed, they were.
