Maud takes 6-5 victory in eight innings

- By Bob Krayl

PARIS, Texas–Strange game from the very beginning, and it ended on a weird interference call, giving Maud a 6-5 victory in 8 innings in a Class 2A playoff game.

In the 8th inning, Cameron Mills led off with a double and Adam Roberts singled to right and soon stole second base. Rayne Bailey was

hit by pitch to load the bases.

After the first out, Hunter Thomas tried a squeeze bunt but Mills was tossed out at the plate. Then Roberts was trapped off third, and during the rundown the Union Grove third baseman interfered with Roberts, and he was allowed to score the winning run.

It was a wild start with both teams making several errors.

Later, the teams settled down into a pitcher’s duel.

Union Grove scored two runs on no hits with two Maud errors in the first inning.

Maud got the two runs back with two hits and two Lion errors.Brooks Minter and Gage Jones had a single each.

The Lions tallied one run on three hits, but Maud took the lead, 4-3 with two runs without a hit in the bottom of the second inning.

The Lions went ahead again, 5-4, but two runs on three hits in the third. And it took until the sixth inning before Maud tied the game, 5-5.

In the sixth, Mills, and Roberts each had a single after 1-out. Bailey walked to load the bases. Windham’s slow roller to third scored Mills with the tying run.

The second game of the best of three was played after this game, but results weren’t available at press time.
