Fundraiser supports cancer care
The Angel Fund Foundation is gearing up for its third annual Putt for a Purpose fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Texarkana Country Club.
The grand prize is $5,000. Drawdown tickets are available for $100 and include entry for one person. Event tickets are available for $40 per person. In addition to the drawdown, there will be a fish fry, silent auction and a fun putt.
“A drawdown is always fun,” said Kim Glass, board member and fundraising chairperson. “It’s a casual event. You don’t have to worry about dressing up or what to wear. You have a fun putt that’s part of entertainment. You don’t have to be golfer to participate.”
Entertainment will be provided by Danny Maxey and the Barn Kats.
Proceeds from the event benefit local cancer patients.
“We are a nonprofit, local charity and we assist cancer patients that qualify financially with their medical treatment,” Glass said. “We have an application process. Once approved, we will pay for part of their medical treatment that they can’t afford. We help with various things, including lymphedema sleeves, prescriptions, doctor’s visits, anesthesia charges and port placements.”
Since the Angel Fund Foundation’s inception in June 2006, more than $255,000 has been given to 211 patients to help with treatment.
“There are no paid staff, only volunteers, and 100 percent goes to cancer patients. I think that’s what sets us apart. You can know your money is going to someone to help with their treatment,” Glass said.
