Sheridan stings AHS

- By Bob Krayl

After a controversial second game loss, a fired up Sheridan Yellowjackets team easily won the last two games over Arkansas High to win, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 25-9, at the Razorbacks Gym Thursday evening.

Sheridan (7-11-1) evens their record at 5-5, while Arkansas High falls to 8-13 overall and 3-7 in conference action.

“There’s not too much to say except we made way too many mistakes,” said Arkansas High coach Kelsey Jackson. “We have to be more consistent and do the little things right.”

Sheridan jumped on top early in the first game by scoring the first five points and stretching the lead, 10-5.

The Lady Backs pulled within 10-9, when the visitors slammed two into the net.

After a Sheridan timeout, AHS added two more points to go on top, 11-10. It was the only lead for Arkansas High.

The Yellowjackets regained the lead, 13-11, and after ties at 13-13 and 22-22, Sheridan broke AHS’ serve and scored the next two to win, 25-22.

Tied at 5-5, in the second set, Sheridan scored four straight with Lauren Stevens serving for a 9-5 lead.

The Lady Backs then outscored Sheridan, 9-3, to take the lead, 14-12, with Makenna Ivey serving.

Sheridan soon regained the lead, 17-15, and after a backand-forth exchanging leads, Sheridan was on top, 23-22, but the scoreboard read, 23-22, in Arkansas’ favor.

After Sheridan protested, the referee went with what the scorebook had with Arkansas ahead.

The Lady Backs held on to win the game, 25-23.

After a brief advantage, 5-4, Sheridan reeled off five straight for a 10-4 advantage,

and pulled away after an 7-1 run for a commanding 17-5 lead in the third game.

Sheridan then survived a late surge by Arkansas to win the game, 25-18.

Sheridan didn’t waste any time building a huge lead after an 8-0 run, 13-2, and breezed toward winning the game, 25-9, and the match.

Ivey led the Lady Backs with 10 kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Kasey Duncan had eight kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Fortunate Barry had 13 assists, four blocks and six service points.

Sheridan also won the junior varsity contest, 25-17, 25-23.
