André Chiang recital Tuesday

The Texarkana College Department of Music and the AR-TX Music Connection present a voice recital by baritone André Chiang at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Held at the Stilwell Humanities Music Hall, the concert will include selections by Rossini, Brahms, Bizet and several more modern composers, including Cole Porter. Accompanyi­ng

Chiang on piano will be Mary Scott Goode, music professor at TC. The recital is free.

Chiang is the winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs 2017 Biennial Young Artist Competitio­n in Men’s Voice, and he has extensive experience performing with opera companies and for recitals. Opera companies this Alabama native has performed with include Mobile Opera, Painted Sky Opera, Louisiana Opera, Opéra Louisiane, Shreveport Opera, Opera Birmingham. He’s also performed with the New Orleans Symphony Chorus, Richmond Symphony, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Shore Choral Society and more. He’s a 2018 National Associatio­n of Teachers of Singing Intern and winner of the 45th National Associatio­n of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards Competitio­n.

Chiang, who earned degrees at the University of South Alabama and Manhattan School of Music, will also conduct a master class for TC students Wednesday morning.

Also on tap for the TC Department of Music this next week is a noon Thursday recital with violinist Kiril Laskarov accompanie­d by pianist Marc-André Bougie. It’s a preview of the upcoming Texarkana Symphony Orchestra concert on Oct. 6. It’s free and open to the public.
