One-stop registration
The Komen Store in Central Mall will provide all materials for Oct. 20 Race for the Cure in one visit
People interested in signing up for the 20th annual Race for the Cure can go to the Komen Store in Central Mall at the West Entrance near Chic-Fil-A.
Registration is available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 16.
“This is a one-stop shop for registration. You can register, get your race packet, T-shirt and bib right there,” said Amber Lawrence, director of the Komen Arkansas southwest region office. “It’s the easiest way to register because you can get all of your things and you don’t have to go back and pick them up later.”
Race for the Cure is slated to take place Oct. 20 at the Front Street Festival Plaza in downtown Texarkana.
New this year will be a 1.5 mile celebration walk in addition to the 5K competitive race.
Registration for the walk is $25, $35 for competitive runners, $20 for children 0-12 and $10 for dogs.
Organizers are expecting approximately 5,000 participants.
“It’s been going great so far. We’ve had lots of new teams starting this year and it’s been and exciting year so far,” Lawrence said.
Organizers hope to raise $250,000 this year.
Proceeds from Race for the Cure are used to provide mammograms, diagnostic testing and other services to the uninsured or underinsured. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds stay local and the other 25 percent goes to Komen for special research projects.
