THS runner second at cross country meet

LINDALE, Texas—Texas High placed fourth in the varsity boys and fifth in the varsity girls divisions of the Lindale cross country meet on Thursday.

The Tiger boys scored 125 points, led by Owen Likins’ second-place finish of 16:40.23. Evan Likins was 23rd for THS in 18:53, Alex Cannon 26th in 18:57, Nabil Kalam 34th in 19:49, Joshua Somerville 40th in 19:59 and Gabriel Riley 41st in 20:09.

Fezeka Barnes paced the Lady Tigers with her 14th-place run of 24:45.81, and Emmy King was 16th in 25:07 as the team scored 114 points. Emma Lefors ran 19th in 26:24 for Texas High, Breaja James was 30th in 28:16 and Shakerria Kirkendall 35th in 30:22.

In the junior varsity girls run, Dashia Mixon finished in 16:49.66.

Texas High’s boys placed 15th in the junior varsity team standings with 404 points. Ethan Pirkey was 56th in 22:37.46 for the Tigers.

Texas High will be back on the course Monday in the District cross country meet.

Football

Pirates’ junior high blanks Boles

SIMMS, Texas—Ethan Evans scored on runs of a yard and 56 yards as James Bowie’s junior high shut out Quinlan Boles, 24-0.

Evans also ran in a 2-point conversion for the Pirates. Dylan Braley caught an 11-yard touchdown from Logan McCullough and ran in a 2-point conversion. Clay Allen had a 2-point conversion as well.

Boles shut out James Bowie in the junior varsity game, 24-0.

L-E’s frosh fall to Longview

LONGVIEW, Texas—Darrius Francisco had a 15-yard touchdown run and ran in the 2-point conversion, but Liberty-Eylau’s ninth grade fell to Longview, 26-8.

Defensive standouts for the Leopards were the defensive line, Shawn White, and Keyvuntae Featherson.

Michael Riley recovered a fumble for L-E, while teammates Chris Lewis and Marshad Handy each had an intercepti­on.

The Leopards’ freshmen (2-2-2) are on a bye next week.

Hawks suffer defeat to Carthage

K.J. Hicks scored a 9-yard touchdown run for Pleasant Grove’s junior varsity, but Carthage scored last to win, 14-7.

Connor Damron legged in the extra point for the Hawks. Hicks forced a fumble and Quinn Bingham recovered for Pleasant Grove in the first quarter.

Tyler Williams forced a fumble and Hayden Koller recovered in the second quarter for the Hawks. Jayden Parker and Koller each had a fumble recovery for PG in the second half.

Davion Stewart had a 33-yard touchdown run and scored the 2-point conversion for Pleasant Grove’s junior varsity, but the Hawks were downed by Carthage, 34-8.

Lions, Rabbits split

NEW BOSTON, Texas—Atlanta rolled past New Boston in the eighth grade game, 46-0, and New Boston defeated Atlanta in the seventh grade game, 20-14.

Chris Ganaway scored on a 15-yard run and Newt Taylor caught a pass from Connor Bobbitt for the Lions’ first touchdown in the seventh grade game.

Dontae Thompson plunged into the end zone from a yard out, and teammate Jonah Sanchez had a 50-yard touchdown run for New Boston.

Xavier Rowden recovered a fumble for the Lions.

Hornets, Dragons split

REDWATER, Texas—Hooks won the eighth grade game, 28-14, with Logan Davis accounting for all four touchdowns for the Hornets.

Davis rushed for 140 yards and three TDs and tossed a 50-yard score to David Garcia for Hooks. Jake Ledford added a pair of 2-point conversion­s.

Collin Narens had a 4-yard scoring run and added the 2-point run for the Dragons, who also had a 1-yard plunge by Austin Smith.

Redwater won the seventh grade game, 44-36. Devan Smith and Jaxon Minter accounted for all but the go-ahead score for the home team in the win.

Smith had a pair of 3-yard scoring runs and added a 2-point conversion, and Minter had a 66-yard TD run, a trio of 2-pointers and a touchdown on a 65-yard kickoff return, which tied the game. Cadence Pipes dove in from the 1 for winning TD, and Minter added his third 2-point conversion.

Ethan Shumate also had a fumble recovery on defense for Redwater.

Keyshawn Walls had 230 yards rushing and five touchdowns for the Hornets, as well as a pair of 2-point conversion­s. Tamarion Smith also had a 2-pointer for Hooks.

Volleyball Hallsville sweeps TMS

Casey Graves served in six points, but Texas Middle School’s eighth grade A team fell to Hallsville, 25-15, 25-17.

Makinlee McDonald had three service points for the Lady Tigers, but Hallsville swept TMS’s eighth grade B team, 25-12, 25-7.

Anna Lee served in 19 points for the Tigers in the seventh grade A match, but Hallsville came back to win, 20-25, 25-17, 25-23.

Aamireyon Moore and Gabrielle Lancaster each served in six points for TMS’s seventh grade B team, but they fell to Hallsville, 25-12, 25-14.

Tennis Razorbacks, Hawks play to a tie

Arkansas High and Pleasant Grove played to an 11-all tie at the Hawks’ courts in a crosstown varsity matchup.

Tigers defeat Greenville

Texas High crushed Greenville on the courts, 20-0, as a team in junior varsity tennis.
