Go get your bling on for hospice fundraiser
Hospice of Texarkana invites the city to get its bling on at the ninth annual Jeans & Bling fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Texarkana Convention Center.
Starting at 7 p.m., this year’s Jeans & Bling once again features dinner, live music and more unique entertainment as part of the fun festivities.
This year that entertainment includes the Lip Sync Battle pitting three locals against each other: attorneys Jennifer Orgeron and Ben King and radiation oncologist Dr. Omar Ishaq. Last year’s talented lip sync victors, Texarkana College Cosmetology, will open the competition and provide lip sync inspiration with a Tina Turner-themed performance.
Also highlighting the entertainment is Texas Unlimited Band, who’ve shared the stage with such top acts as George Strait, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Lorrie Morgan and Diamond Rio, said Stefanie Brazile, director of development and
public relations at Hospice of Texarkana.
“TUB is a variety band specializing in country, rock, pop, and they sing covers, so you’re going to know the music and the dance floor will be open,” Brazile said.
Last year’s Jeans & Bling raised about $61,000 to help pay for the Hospice of Texarkana Care Center that opened in June of 2016. Through the first eight years, the event has raised $389,000 for the cause. Since opening, the care center has served almost 700 patients.
For this year’s Jeans & Bling, fall decor will fill the tables, courtesy of the new Texarkana business Studio 230. Also included is a dinner featuring Texas-style barbecue, as well as two trip raffles and a silent auction.
“Our raffle features two trips and you do not have to attend the event to participate. We will award six nights, seven days to an upscale Destin, Fla., condo, and we will award three nights in Branson, along with meal vouchers, an offroad adventure and a $300 VISA gift card,” Brazile said. “Tickets are one for $15 or two for $25 until the event and $20 each at the event.”
She said dozens of businesses are scheduled to participate by providing silent auction items.
Jeans & Bling serves as Hospice of Texarkana’s major fundraiser during the year.
