Hornets blank New Boston JV, 22-0
HOOKS, Texas—Hooks’ junior varsity shut out New Boston, 22-0, Thursday at Hornet Stadium.
Rhett Ashmore raced 60 yards for a touchdown and threw another 10 yards to Travion Jones for the Hornets. Ashmore also tossed a 2-point conversion to Nate Henry.
David Johnson got Hooks on the scoreboard with a 5-yard scoring run, and he added a 2-pointer after the Ashmore-to-Jones strike.
On defense, Brandon Orr and Xavior Huey had fumble recoveries, and Ashmore intercepted a pass.
Hawks win four games
Trent Kelley, Victor Shaw, Garett Harrison and Hunter Williams each scored a touchdown as Pleasant Grove’s eighth-grade A team rolled past Pittsburg, 30-14, at Hawk Stadium.
The Hawks’ eighth-grade B team romped past the Pirates, 42-12.
Jaylen Boardley and Reece Cooper scored two touchdowns apiece to lead Pleasant Grove’s seventh-grade A team to a 42-0 shutout over Pittsburg.
Joe Bailey recovered a fumble for a TD, and teammate Brenton Clark had a touchdown for the Hawks.
Pleasant Grove’s seventh-grade B team demolished the Pirates, 48-6.
PG lost the freshmen game, 22-8.
Lions, Hornets split
HOOKS, Texas—New Boston edged Hooks in the eighth-grade game, 40-32, at Hornet Stadium, but the Hornet seventh-grade posted a 24-0 shutout.
Demetrius McChester scored two touchdowns for the Lions on runs of 20 and 30 yards. Malaki Beckham added four 2-point conversions for New Boston, while Austin Walker scored on a 50-yard run. Kadan Hall finished with two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion, while teammate Terez Griffin added an interception.
Logan Davis rushed for three scores and threw another for the Hooks eighth-grade team. Davis accounted for 160 yards of total offense, tossing a 45-yard TD to David Garcia, who also had a rushing touchdown. Davis added a 2-point conversion, and Axel Welch had a fumble recovery on defense.
Keyshawn Walls paced the Hooks’ seventh-graders with 170 rushing yards and three touchdowns, along with a 2-point conversion. Jatavious Johnson and Tamarion Smith each had a 2-point run for the Hornets.
Volleyball
Lady Lions 8th grade sweeps
HOOKS, Texas—New Boston won both eighth-grade matches in straight sets against host Hooks, posting a 25-14, 25-18 in the A match.
Romyane McChester led the Lady Lions with 12 points, and Natalie Whitten and Kaydence Hodge served five points each for the Lady Hornets.
Hooks won the seventh-grade A match, 25-15, 25-16. Kinsley Birdwell led the Hornets with 16 winners. Natalee Dunn served four for New Boston.
NB won the eighth-grade B match in two with Mieisha Walker leading the servers. Tiara Sanders led Hooks.
The seventh-grade B teams split sets. Kyleigh Gerber had 13 points for the Hornets, and Akya Smith and Cheryden Forrest led the Lions.
DeKalb sweeps Redwater
REDWATER, Texas—DeKalb’s eighth grade A volleyball squad defeated Redwater, 25-17, 25-22.
Anijah Gray led the Lady Bears with nine service points and Abigail Morrow led the Lady Dragons with seven service points.
The Bears beat the Dragons in the eighth-grade B match, 26-24, 11-9.
Jaylynn Hayden led DeKalb with eight service points and Maggie Parker led Redwater with four service points.
The Dragons seventh-grade A squad defeated the Bears in their match, 26-24, 25-21.
Karley Latham led the Redwater with nine service points and Lizeth Martinez led DeKalb with nine service points.
The Bears defeated the Dragons in the seventh-grade B match, 25-18, 18-15.
Sulphur Bluff, Maud split
MAUD, Texas—Sulphur Bluff’s junior high A squad defeated Maud, 25-16, 25-21.
Jaiden Darden led the Lady Cardinals with six service points and Jayden Sanders added four service points.
Maud’s B team beat Sulphur
Bluff, 25-21, 26-24.
Samantha Barnette led the Cardinals with eight service points, and Bayla White added seven service points. Kami White contributed six service points for Maud.
TMS tops Marshall
MARSHALL, Texas—Texas Middle School’s eighth-grade A squad swept Marshall, 26-24, 25-21.
Casey Graves led the Lady Tigers with eight points. Hallie Lower and Emma Prince, each contributed seven service points for TMS.
Mashall beat Texas Middle School’s eighth-grade B team, 24-26, 25-15, 25-13.
Kiara Martin led the Tigers with 13 service points.
TMS defeated Marshall in the seventh-grade A match, 20-25, 25-22, 25-14.
Mally Lumpkin led TMS with 17 service points.
Marshall’s seventh-grade B squad defeated Texas Middle School, 25-15, 25-22.
Aamireyon Moore led the Tigers with six service points.
