Fouke player gets her 1,000th point in Panthers’ victory,
Fouke senior hits milestone in Panthers’ 94-26 victory
FOUKE, Ark.—Something rare happened at Panther Gym on Thursday.
Crysta Larey, a senior for Fouke, scored her 1,000th career point in the first quarter, and the Lady Panthers rolled past Lafayette County, 94-26, in a varsity girls’ basketball game.
Larey caught the inbounds pass in the back court, drove down the floor, broke to her right, and hit a layup for the 1,000th point of her career. Larey is in her fourth year starting for Fouke.
“At first, I was rushing everything, and I was nervous,” Larey said. “Once I scored my 1,000th point, I relaxed. I was proud of myself and my teammates. I give all the glory to God. He has given me all of my talents and my work ethic. Coach Mo (Williams) has pushed me to be my best.
“I have always worked my hardest to be where I am at. I have had some injuries, but
I have always just pushed through it.”
Larey finished the game with 19 points, which tied the teamhigh score.
“Crysta is the hardest working player that I have ever coached,” Fouke head coach Mo Williams said. “When she is involved in something, she is all in. I couldn’t be happier for her. Reaching 1,000 points is a milestone that not many players get. If anyone deserves it, it’s her.”
The coaches agreed to let the clock run in the second half. Fouke put the game away with a 66-8 lead at the half.
Taylor Hardin poured in 19 points for the Panthers, Mallory Oliver scored 17, and River Watkins contributed 15.
Kaley Joseph had a teamhigh nine points for the Lady Cougars.
Fouke shot 60 percent from the field on 29-of-48 shooting. Lafayette County shot 29 percent from the field on 12-of-41 shots.
The Panthers out-rebounded the Cougars, 24-22 and committed less turnovers, 26-11.
