At­lanta’s dom­i­nant start enough to pick off Hooks

AT­LANTA, Texas— At­lanta jumped out to a big early lead with three touch­downs in the first quar­ter, and went on to a 54-20 vic­tory over Hooks in a Dis­trict 7-3A con­test Fri­day night at Rab­bit Sta­dium.

With the vic­tory, At­lanta (5-5) clinches sec­ond place in dis­trict with a 5-1 record and moves on to the state play­offs next week.

Hooks ends its sea­son with a 4-6 record, in­clud­ing 2-4 is dis­trict play.

At­lanta racked up 23 first

downs and had 541 yard to­tal of­fense.

Jawan King led the Rab­bits’ 448 yards rush­ing at­tack with 150 yards on just eight car­ries. Not far be­hind was Caleb Hamil­ton with 128 yards on nine at­tempts.

Hamil­ton and King also had two touch­downs each.

Quar­ter­back An­drew Sam­ples also had a big night with 78 yards rush­ing and three touch­downs. He also had 93 yards pass­ing.

Lo­gan Mur­ray, Mar­quiz Estell and Ma­son Vasquez had touch­downs for Hooks. Mur­ray’s touch­down came on an 80-yard kick­off re­turn.
