Area flash-flood watch in effect today

Texarkana Gazette - - METRO -

A flash-flood watch is in effect until 6 p.m. today.

The watch, issued by the National Weather Service in Shreveport, La., is for portions of Southwest Arkansas and Northeast Texas including the counties of Hempstead, Lafayette, Little River, Miller and Nevada in Arkansas. Counties in Texas include Bowie, Cass, Morris and Titus.

Widespread rain, which may be heavy at times, is expected as a strong low-pressure system approaches the area. Rainfall totals of three to six inches, with isolated higher amounts, are possible.

Heavy rainfall may lead to flooding of low-lying and poor-drainage areas as well as rivers, creeks, and streams.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, a very dangerous situation.

The NWS recommends everyone should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
