Hornets’ JH earn two tourney championships
RED LICK, Texas—Hooks swept the Red Lick basketball tournament.
The Hornets’ eighth-grade team won 41-26 over Red Lick, and the seventh-graders did likewise with a 51-15 victory over the host team.
Matthew Hays led the Hornet’s eighth-grade squad with 18 points.
Lanon Hamilton had the high point for the Mustangs with 15.
Hooks’ seventh-grade crew was led by Tamarion Smith with 14 points. Dakota Denard had eight points to lead Red Lick.
In the first eighth-grade game the Mustangs defeated Redwater, 32-25.
Ethan Bobo led Red Lick with 10. Alec Calicott and Chris Giambrone paced Redwater with seven points apiece.
In the second contest, Hooks triumphed over Queen City, 34-21.
Logan Davis led the way for the Hornets with 10 points. Clayton Whittenburg had six points for the Bulldogs.
In the penultimate game for the eighth-graders, Redwater overcame Queen City, 34-18.
Calicott was the top scorer for the Dragons with nine points. Jeremiah Drayton had five points to lead Queen City.
The first seventh-grade game saw Red Lick topple Redwater, 33-27.
Wesley Bradford had 12 points to lead the Mustangs. The Dragons were led by Darryl Smith with eight.
In the second match-up Hooks smashed Queen City, 55-18.
Carveion Johnson led the Hornets with 16 points. Clint Wiley had the high score for Queen City with a dozen.
The third game for the seventh-graders went to Redwater who defeated Queen City, 30-13.
Candence Pipes and Luke Wheat both had six points to lead the Dragons. Latham Chamblee had four points for the Bulldogs.
PG’s seventh wins tourney; eighth places second
MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas— Autumn Crouch and Emma Boehmke each scored four points, but Pleasant Grove’s eighth grade fell to host Mount Pleasant, 29-14, in the Mount Pleasant basketball tournament.
Boehmke swished in six points as the Lady Hawks defeated Mount Vernon, 17-11.
Rose Anderson scored five points to lead Pleasant Grove to an 18-15 victory over Texas Middle School.
Rylie Williams and Madison Carpenter had six points apiece, and the Hawks’ seventh-grade team won the tournament with a 25-14 victory over Mount Vernon.
PG’s Carpenter and Julia Hackelman each scored five points in a 19-14 win over Mount Pleasant.
Faye Addison poured in 12 points and teammate Whitney Thornton added 10 in a 33-6 thumping of Texas Middle School.
