Atlanta boys take home championship
McLEOD, Texas—Charlie Powell poured in 19 points as Atlanta defeated McLeod, 61-55, in the championship game of the McLeod varsity boys basketball tournament on Saturday.
Daimion Collins scored 13 points for the champion Rabbits, while Hunter Allen added 11.
Trevor Deel had a team-high 18 points for the Longhorns, and teammate Casey Smith scored 17.
DaMir Rascoe lit up the nets for 21 points as Queen City won the consolation game with a 56-46 win over DeKalb.
Tyler Nolen scored 15 points, and teammate Colton Davis added 13 for the Bulldogs.
Logan Corbett paced the Bears with 13 points, and teammate KenTavius Williams contributed 10.
Collins put up 15 points to lead Atlanta to a 60-34 victory over Abba Golden in an earlier game. Hunter Allen swished in 14 for the Rabbits.
Easton Fincher had 16 point, but Queen City was edged by Miller Grove, 40-37. Nolen contributed 10 points.
Payton Windham led Maud with 11 points, but Miller Grove defeated the Cardinals, 59-39.
Smith popped in 13 points for McLeod, and the Longhorns defeated Avinger, 36-31.
Bryson Schubert scored 10 points for the Indians.
AJ Burgin led DeKalb with 16 points, and the Bears defeated Maud, 71-38, earlier in the day.
Luke Raulston ripped the cords for 15 points, while teammate Corbett scored 12 for DeKalb.

L-E seventh graders win
VIVIAN, La.—Liberty-Eylau Middle School’s seventh-grade boys won the tournament championship Saturday in the North Caddo-Vivian basketball championship.
The Leopards (7-0) beat North DeSoto, 42-18, in the title game, with Ta’Marcus Gray leading the way with 16 points.
L-E earlier defeated Keithville, La., 39-20, with Gray scoring 15 and Ahkhari Johnson 13 for the winners. Gray was named the most valuable player for the tourney.
The Leopards’ eighth-grade team lost the consolation final, 50-18. Xavier Dangerfield led L-E (6-2) with nine points.
In preliminary games, L-E beat North DeSoto, 39-19, with Dangerfield netting 14 points. The Leopards then defeated Magnolia, 39-20, with Dangerfield again leading the charge with 11 points.
Liberty-Eylau Middle School will host Pleasant Grove on Monday.
