New ‘Bachelor’ Colton Underwood searches for love

- By Kyla Brewer

A fresh start: Romance isn’t for the faint of heart. Even with a thriving dating app industry, it can be tough to find that special someone. But one lucky man is about to get a shot at love, and viewers can watch it all unfold in prime time.

Colton Underwood makes a play to find the woman of his dreams in the season premiere of “The Bachelor,” airing Monday, Jan. 7, on ABC. The former NFL player made audiences swoon when he appeared in the 14th season of “The Bachelorette,” starring Becca Kufrin, but was eliminated in week 8. He also appeared in this summer’s “Bachelor in Paradise,” where he found closure and clarity but not romance.

Not one to be deterred, Underwood is back for another shot at love as the 23rd bachelor. He made waves during his time on “The Bachelorette” for his candid conversations about his virginity, especially during “The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All” reunion special. In an interview with eonline.com, “The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison explained why he thinks viewers will appreciate this season’s bachelor:

“Once you get to see him and know him, everyone is going to fall in love with him and really respect that he is so open, so vulnerable, so emotional,” Harrison said.

This season of “The Bachelor” follows Underwood as he meets a variety of beautiful, interesting single ladies and hopes to find someone with whom he can share his life. After getting to know the women on a series of dates, he gives roses to those he wants to get to know better. Unfortunately, the ladies who don’t receive roses are sent home. In the end, he has to choose one woman to continue to have a relationship with, which just might result in a marriage proposal.

Watch as Underwood makes another play for romance in the new season of “The Bachelor,” airing Monday, Jan. 7, on ABC.

Ellen’s got game: With lavish prizes and cold, hard cash on the line, game shows can be intense. However, one of daytime’s most beloved talk show hosts is injecting her own brand of lighthearted fun into a prime-time game show, and viewers can’t seem to get enough.

Ellen DeGeneres invites members of the studio audience to participate in zany games in the new season of “Ellen’s Game of Games,” premiering Tuesday, Jan. 8, on NBC. She guides the contestants through action-packed games as they vie for a big cash prize.

DeGeneres and her crew have developed super-sized versions of the games featured on her daytime talk show, with hilarious results. Participants have to navigate their way through massive obstacles, answer questions correctly under pressure and even face plunges into the unknown. Games such as Blindfolded Musical Chairs, Dizzy Dash and Scary Go Round keep audiences on the edge of their seats as contestants play four rounds of games.

The winner of each round continues on to play Know or Go, in which the player stands on a trap door that opens if they answer a question wrong. The contestant who advances to the final plays an epic game of Hot Hands, a game that requires the player to guess as many answers as they can in a short amount of time.

Even when the stakes are high, DeGeneres brings comic relief with her unique commentary. Don’t miss the season premiere of “Ellen’s Game of Games,” airing Tuesday, Jan. 8, on NBC.

Best of the best: Just about everybody has a talent, and many people love to share their talents with the world. One reality TV series has given people from all walks of life the opportunity to showcase their talents, and it’s become a worldwide phenomenon.

For the first time ever, fan favorites from previous seasons take the stage to compete in the premiere of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” airing Monday, Jan. 7, on NBC. Terry Crews (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) hosts this special edition of the popular series, which also features competitors from other global “AGT” franchises.

Judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel are set to welcome Crews to the fold as the competition kicks off and the NFL player-turned-actor couldn’t be happier to join the team.

“NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ is a show I love to watch with my family and now to actually be a part of this special edition, ‘The Champions,’ is more than I could have asked or dreamed,” Crews said in an official news release.

The show brings together some of the most memorable “Got Talent” performers, including magician Piff the Magic Dragon, vocal trio The Texas Tenors, comedian Taylor Williamson, dance act Justice Crew and contortionist Sofie Dossi. International performers include singer Susan Boyle (“Britain’s Got Talent”), dance group Attraction (“Britain’s Got Talent”), sand artist Kseniya Simonova (“Ukraine’s Got Talent”), kid DJ DJ Arch Jnr (“South Africa’s Got Talent”) and jump ropers DDF Crew (“Holland’s Got Talent”).

To see these acts and many more, tune in to “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” premiering Monday, Jan. 7, on NBC.
