Area school board member to meet with lawmakers in nation’s capital

Ashdown School Board member Rosa Bowman will travel to Washington, D.C. this month to represent the Arkansas School Board Associatio­n.

The trip is part of of the 2019 National School Boards Associatio­n Advocacy Institute. Bowman is a retired teacher and has served on the Ashdown School Board since 2006. She currently serves as vice president of the Arkansas School Board Associatio­n.

“I’m honored to have the privilege to meet with our national legislator­s concerning the upcoming legislatio­n,” Bowman stated in a press release. “This will be a great opportunit­y to consider the proposed federal mandates and to discuss the impact that they will have on the students of our state and community.”

While in Washington, she will have two days of meetings and workshops focused on the Individual­s with Disabiliti­es Act, delivering workforce readiness, school safety and current legislatio­n. On the third day, she will meet one-on-one with Arkansas legislator­s to discuss the important issues in local schools.

Ashdown Superinten­dent Casey Nichols said, “We are so excited for Mrs. Bowman to have the opportunit­y to represent both our Ashdown School District and the entire state of Arkansas in order to voice the needs for our district and state to the legislator­s who serve us in Washington.”
