Texas High defeats Greenville

Texas High outscored Greenville, 30-9, from beyond the 3-point arc, and the Tigers beat the Lions, 84-73, in a District 15-5A basketball matchup Friday night at Tiger Center.

The Tigers (26-8, 7-2) had already clinched the second-place playoff berth in the district, but had to play hard to overcome the Lions (13-20, 2-7).

THS led 40-32 at halftime, and extended the margin to 11 points after three quarters before playing Greenville even in the final period.

Five seniors were introduced before the game in Senior Night ceremonies, and three of them scored in double figures against Greenville.

Kyle Wright had half the team’s 10 goals from 3-point range and finished with a game-high 26 points. Junior C.J. Kelley had 21 and seniors Cole Drumm and Matt Arnold added 15 and 12 points, respective­ly.

For Greenville, Quinn Anderson scored 19 points, Jeremiah Abrego 17 and Kedrin Carter 15.

Texas High’s junior varsity and ninth-grade teams remained unbeaten in district play with easy wins.

Ben DePriest scored 20 points to lead the jayvees (20-4, 9-0) to an 85-52 rout. Aaron Meeks added 16, Rian Cellers 13 and Montarius Johnson 10.

In the freshmen’s 66-31 romp, Michael Thomas pumped home 24 points and Braylon Stewart added 13. Texas High is 22-1 on the season, 9-1 in district.

Texas High closes out the regular season Tuesday at Royse City. The Tigers will play Pine Tree, the thirdplace team from District 16-5A, in the bi-district round the following week at a site yet to be determined.
