PG trustees to discuss superintendent search

- By Jennifer Middleton

Pleasant Grove Independent School District’s Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. today and hear an update from the superintendent search firm they hired to find a replacement for Dr. Jason Smith.

In October, the district entered into a contract with Texas-based Arrow Educational Services Inc. to find a replacement for the three-year superintendent, who left the district Jan. 1 to serve as president at Texarkana College. Roger Hailey was named interim superintendent later in October and took the position at the first of the year. The district also used Arrow to find Smith, who was hired to lead the district after the former superintendent, Todd Williams, left PGISD.

The board will also consider the 2018-19 district calendar, replacing the intercom at the middle school and personnel. A public hearing will also be held on the annual Texas Academic Performance Report from the Texas Education Association.

In addition, trustees will consider a lease agreement with New Cingular Wireless PCS for the lease of a parcel of land behind the middle school. Hailey said they are negotiating the contract, which includes a five-year lease. He said the lease will be for at least $1,200 per month, which will go to the district’s general fund.

The meeting will be held at the Central Services, 8500 N. Kings Highway, Texarkana, Texas.
